October 9, 2007(Nebraska)- In response to the Bangkok Post article on September 25, 2007, the Hmong refugees in Huay Nam Khao are facing an uncertain future leaving thousands in fear. The Royal Thai Government has repeatedly wanted to deport 7,700 Hmongs in Huay Nam Khao to Laos without any indications of third party involvement. Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont states that there is no fighting in Laos now, but Hmong refugees from the jungle have testified that the Lao PDR military suppression of the Hmongs appears to continue in certain areas and persecution of at least some of the returnees cannot be located due to the lack of international monitoring.

The Diplomatic communities, members of the US House of Representatives, members of the US Senate, UNHCR officials, NGO representatives, all other concerned individuals, and the Hmong community and leaders:
On behalf of the Hmong refugees in Thailand and the Hmong community here in the United States, we would like to write this letter of recommendation request for your assistance in helping find a solution to the Hmong refugee crisis in Thailand. Currently, there are more than 7,000 Hmong Lao refugees that have been trapped in Thailand. The issues have been addressed to the UN in various occasions, but no one seems to take it seriously. Even though we have found many cases that have well found fear of persecution if return to Laos, the Royal Thai Government does not recognize them as refugees. This is to prevent the UNHCR from getting involved. Now they are currently detaining in a tight security detention center in Phetchabun and may be forced to repatriate soon. Some of the genuine refugees may face persecution when returned to Laos. recommendations7_9_07final
