November 23, 2006, after several days of negotiation between the UNHCR and the RTG, the Royal Thai Government has suspended the deportation of 194 Hmong detainees in the Immigration Detention Center in Bangkok. The RTG has shown its integrity, sincerity, and applies the provisions of the UN 1951 Refugee Convention to the Hmong Refugees without discrimination accordingly to the Articles 3 and 33 of the Convention.

Currently about 329 Hmong refugees in the Bangkok area have moved into the BRC Building seeking refugee protection. They have been in the building since Saturday morning, November 18, 2006 and are not willing to return to their apartments due to fear of being arrested by the Royal Thai government. Everyone is sleeping on the floor and outside of the building without blankets or sheets. They are starving, and many are sick. Link

29 HMONG PRISONERS ARE FINALLY RELEASED |

North Carolina-October 9, 2006,The 29 Hmong prisoners who were arrested along with the 274 Hmong Lao from the temporary resettlement in Huay Nam Khao on June 5, 2006 are now finally released from the prison in Phetchabun. “We thank Nao Ong and the local Thai Authority for releasing us from the building of darkness without paying a fine,” said Vang Hue Lee.
